What is a Naturopathic Nutritionist?

Hi, I am Parveen, and I am a Registered Naturopathic Nutritionist.

So exactly what is that and how do I help people.

Naturopathy is a system of healthcare which promotes and encourages the body’s own self-healing mechanisms.

The key part of my role is that I treat everyone as an individual. I recognise that everyone needs a personalised approach to their nutritional health. I do not put people in boxes and administer tick box outcomes.

I do this by focusing on four clear structures

·       I look to find the cause of the disease or issue the issue that is causing the problem; I do not just treat a symptom

·       I look at the constitution of my clients. Understanding their physical make up helps create the right basis for the right treatment

·       I explain the importance of cleansing and detoxifying the body to help start the healing process

·       I explain the positive uses of organic and whole food as a medicine

It is the person that is being treated and not a symptom. As a Naturopathic practitioner I feel that it is essential that I promote the importance of ‘prevention’. Prevention is much preferable to finding a cure.

However, what is clear it that most diseases can be clearly linked to lifestyle, diet, and the environment. It is therefore essential that we address these early to prevent disease and not just react to them when they appear.

I use several therapies to help my clients and make the appropriate referrals where necessary for example, acupuncture, chiropractors, herbal medicine and homeopathy to name a few.  I aim to treat the whole patient and by that, I mean physical, genetic, mental, social, and environmental. I believe that following naturopathic principles to promote the body’s own self-healing mechanisms is the start of a journey and not just a short-term fix.

Whilst I believe in treating the whole person it is also about empowering my clients to take responsibility for their own health, it is a collaborative approach and not a show and tell process. As I mentioned earlier, I do not subscribe to a tick box process of nutrition. There cannot be a “one size fits all” approach if you are treating the whole person. Yes, two clients may have the same symptoms but by identifying the root causes of each my approach would differ and the outcomes would not be the same. What you focus on is not what is the disease, but why is it there, where did it come from, how long has it been there and, therefore, what is the cause? Only then can you treat it properly and for the long term.

Working naturopathically requires you to recognise the individual and their individuality.

Finally, education is so important. As practitioners it is our duty to educate our clients, to help them have a better understanding of their health, how to not only improve it but maintain it and then how to not create an environment which can result in a return of the disease.

I love my vocation, it’s not a job to me and I gain so much satisfaction from seeing people achieve a new perspective on themselves and create a positive future. If you would like to know more about how I can help you then book a FREE 15-minute discovery call with me via my home page.
